This charming little room, with its hand-painted country
Victorian bed and chifforobe, was "added" during the 1987 restoration. A storage
room occupied this space when the house was originally built, but had been
removed several years later to provide an upstairs sitting area. The outline of
the original room was visible on the painted floor boards and served as a guide
for the "new" room.
The Thomas family purchased the house from Julia
Munzesheimer in 1908 and occupied it until 1912 when it was sold to the Perry
family. Mr. Thomas was the co-owner of the Mineola Monitor, the local newspaper,
and was very active in the community. A type setting tray and an old camera have
been placed in the room as a reminder of the journalistic ties.
In addition, Mr. Thomas served as a representative to
the twenty-ninth and thirtieth Texas State Legislature from Wood County from
1905 to 1909. However, Mr. Thomas believed that Mineola was becoming "too large"
so he sold the house and "moved to the country".
The private bath for the Thomas room was the first bath
in the house (added around 1912) and contains the original footed tub. The tub
is also the largest one in the house (6 foot) and is in excellent shape.
